12.21.14 tasmania summer lovin'

Hey everyone its yo girl Sister Hatch from the AZ. Haha. Well this week was fantastic! On Monday we all went to the gorge. It was the worst bc it was so hot and everyone was swimming and cliff jumping and that and I wanted to and then realized I am still a missionary but we did see a seal and a young guy took off his clothes & jumped in. I swear the things you see in public these days is shocking. So funny though.

Then Tuesday we had district meeting over the phone again and had lunch! Then we did some service w/ the elders @ a nonmembers house. I saw a huge spider! 1st one I've seen. We were doing yard work and that it was good and long.

Wednesday we went on exchanges w/ the STL's, it was good. They come and double in our area for the day...me and Sister F got to pick HEAPS of raspberries from JL's garden! Ah its raspberry season & everybody has amazing gardens here that they let us pick from, its the best!! Fresh raspberries & ice-cream= celestial kingdom on earth.

Then Thursday we went to St Helens on the EAST COAST. I've been wanting to go there my whole life (on my mish) and finally did!! Best day ever really, AC took us! We went & visited people that live out there and went to the beach for a bit! We had YUM fish & chips and then decided to go for a walk. It was sprinkling but we got out to the end and it started bucketing rain. I kid you not I felt like I was in the shower and we were just running like mad! It was an adventure, all three of us were soaked. Got a few pictures out of it though. :)

On Friday we did planning and lots of stuff and went to J & H's for a BBQ.! We had Australian sausages (like hot dogs) and it was good. They put eggs on too, that was nice! P & C A were there and so were the P's, we played games and ate good stuff, it was the best night ever!

I know what you're all thinking...she does nothing, it sounds like she's only having fun doing holiday stuff..but no! Missionary work is a part of ALL of it :) It just turns into a lot of fun when you have good members and a love for the work! Its the best.

Saturday the elders brought us breakfast! And we went and did service w/ them for another nonmember. I am now a master hedge trimmer, holla. Then put up the W's trampoline after that. Trampolines are the chillest.

Yesterday was so good! Obviously bc church and Christmas but also bc we got to go to S & L P's for tea. They had us and the elders over for a meal and Christmas celebration. We ate amazing food! The elders think that our members like them better and theirs do to so we walked up and there was a note on the car saying we aren't welcome...hahaha. It's rivalry between the wards! We all know that the sisters are the favorites though.

The p's like to sing a lot so we all went and sang hymns and stuff all night. It sounded s cool! It was really lovely, I love the P's. Now its Christmas this week and i'll be talking to yous all very soon! Love you!

12.15.14 a week of adventure

This week we did a lot of fun stuff...not that normal missionary work isn't fun, ha! Monday we went...to CRADLE MOUNTAIN. I went about 6 months ago and now I am the only one left in our district/zone that has been. We've been trying to get back there for ages but haven't been able to because of weather and other things. Its been crazy! One elder wanted to go so bad so we just decided to go no matter what the weather was like. It was supposed to be rainy but we got there (2 hr drive) and it was sunny and warm (perfect). We were stoked! Members came as well, it was pretty good and I don't think Tasmania could get any prettier. If anyone wants a holiday somewhere come HERE. We got back late and went to the W's (late like 7:30pm) hahaha.

The next day was our zone Christmas party! My first and only. They have a big one on the mainland w/ the whole mission, but down here in Tas its just the 20 of us...good and bad I guess. But it was fun. I liked it. Sister M likes to sing so we did a lot of that, there was a talent show..only lasted 15 minutes b/c nobody down here but man it was so good! Elder N (kiwi) sang and killed it. I'll upload the video. We had a feast and ya it was all good. Especially my gifts I got from my fam! Thank yous so much!

The zone meeting on wed in Deloraine. We have an awesome zone! (not all of us there, just our district & ZLs) but the trainings were so good. I always feel inspired after district or zone meetings. Our district leader left for home. Finished just before Christmas so Elder C is our new district leader here in Launie district. He's awesome!

We had tea w/ members every night this week. We got peanut butter M&Ms!!! (impossible to find in Australia) AND had a real Australian bbq. Lyfe is gr8.

On Saturday we went to the Launceston/Tamar wards Christmas party. It was outside at a park 45 min out of Launie called Myrtle park. It's so pretty there! It was so fun, I played w/ M a lot and kicked a ball around w/ everyone I saw... it was super hot out but it was alright. Bro P taught me how to kick and Australian football! Its pretty weird knowing Christmas is in 10 days because...nobody has lights up and its hot. Weirdest thing!

Yesterday O came to church and so did T our cute 9 year old investigator. And we watched the Christmas devotional. I loved it, watch it if you haven't!

Thanks again for the gifts and notes from everyone. You guys are all stars. :)

Love,

12.7.14 terrific tasmania

What's happening?

Ah we had the coolest week! I've just been blown away by the miracles and tender mercies I see every single day. I've come to know without a doubt how much God loves us, every single one of us and I've really noticed that looking for the small and simple things that go right in the day makes all the difference. When I look for those things I notice them and when I notice them I am able to know/feel that they came from God because all good comes from Him! And when I realize that, thats when I have my eyes opened to how much He loves me and everyone around me. That He really does have a perfect plan for all of us.

There were so many amazing things in the work that happened this week. We met so many new and awesome people, saw miracle after miracle and tender mercies like crazy. But one thing that really stuck out w/ me that I would like to share actually happened ...well was talked about...today in fast and testimony meeting in Launceston Tamar ward. There's just something about missionary work/experiences shared that brings the spirit so strong, that impresses people in such a special way. Well today LW bore her testimony of missionary experiences and then CR (senior missionary) who just got home from this week from SLC family history mission got up and shared her testimony. Then shared the most amazing story from a personal experience that she had on her mission. CR is a convert to the church (as most people in Tasmania are) about 50 years ago is when she joined. She has now served a mission and has children and grandchildren and great grandchildren active in the church and some on missions!

Well she said that 50 years ago 2 young missionaries knocked on her door. She was home alone so they wouldn't go in but they left "a book" and she invited them back that Saturday. They came back and took and her husband to church the next day. After that they decided they weren't that interested anymore.

One thing she said though was how vividly she remembered the one missionary that she met just a couple of times who planted the seed. 6 months later she one day felt like she wanted to go back to "that one church we went to once". Her husband could hardly remember but the very next day at the park 2 mormon missionaries came to her and shared the gospel w/ her. She still remembered the 1st one and asked about him, they said he had finished and went home but that he didn't baptise one person his whole mission.
A few weeks later she was baptised and always remembered that 1st missionary who offered her the gospel.

50 years later here she is in SLC serving a mission. One night she had tickets to a show and decided not to go because she was so tired but over and over the spirit prompted her to go to this show. So she went! She got there and walked in and saw a big man standing there. He had a name tag on, she recognized it. It was the missionary who offered her the gospel so long ago! It was the missionary who probably went home thinking he was a failure at some moments. Having no idea the influence he had in this woman's life.

She asked him questions and made sure it was him, She told him she knew he didn't baptise anyone but she needed him to know that it was because of the seed he planted that she is where she is today. She said he just cried and cried and took her to meet his wife and family. Ah!! When she shared that story I just was so overwhelmed with the best most peaceful feeling (spirit). The story showed just how perfectly Gods plan works out. How much he loves HIs children and how real His influence is. How real He is.

Also that my purpose as a missionary is to invite and not only my purpose but every members purpose! To invite others to come unto Christ. The invitation plants the seed! I have such a testimony of this knowing that no matter what, as long as we are doing the right things (commandments) God will place us in the right place @ the right time saying the right thing. Placing people in our lives to help us or for us to help them. Its no coincidence that Sister CR ran into that one missionary 50 years later, it was all in God's plan! And happened at that time for a divine purpose.

Well thats all for this one. I just want to say that I know this is Christ's church on the earth. I know because I've experienced the happiness that comes from living it. I've felt Gods love over and over again and I see lives change everyday because of it. The gospel is true and the Atonement is REAL! God loves us so much no matter what He always promises to illuminate the way before us. He'll never leave us alone!

I love Christmas time as well, always thinking of our Savior and of our loving Father who sent Him to redeem us. How blessed are we?!

Lyfe is great. S'good. I love you all.

Merry Christmas

11.30.14 tasmanian holiday happenings

Our week was really good! We got to do a couple things that were out of the ordinary so it made for a fun week. We got to do district meeting over the phone and thats always pretty interesting, something always goes wrong but it makes for a funny meeting. Ha, Tasmania is like its own mission. We are so isolated down here! It will be like going to a new mission when I go up to the mainland again! I'd be perfectly fine to die here though. (finish her mission)

On Thursday was TURKEY DAY but funny enough we went out and had Korean food. We went with K and A C. They are the best! It was the best food too. I loved it. We went and got cold rock ice cream after that and walked around the city (because it's nice and warm out). On Friday we decorated the flat w/ all the Christmas stuff we had. We have a cute tree and tinsel and turned on some music and decorated it at lunch. I started missing home a bit then, wanting to listen to the normal Christmas music and go out w/ family to Christmas parties and get gifts and food and that but then I remembered what Christmas is really about, its like Savior gave me a hug and told me I had everything, that I wouldn't miss out on anything this Christmas as long as I remembered Him. It was was cool! Christmas really is a special time of year. The real reason everyone is so happy this time of year is because of the spirit of Christ, it has to be!

That night was a relief society party. We made cards and fudge. FUGDE is so good and Michael Buble was singing my jams, my Christmas jams. I loved it while it lasted! Then Saturday we went to Devonport to practice for the Christmas party. We are in the lovely  Devonport stake choir :) its good fun. The party is Saturday so get ready for some pictures. Its supposed to be a night in Bethlehem so we will be dressed up.

Then Sunday there were heaps of people there. It was the primary program and I kid you not I've never laughed so hard. It was the cutest thing. Yoo our Korean investigator came. He doesn't know english well so he doesn't like church much, but we had soup Sunday. Its where an auxillary brings food and everyone eats it after church. Its the besss. After that we went to Deloraine for a UYC devotional. Took me right back! I'm the only one of us that was @ UYC left here in Tas. It was so good. Youth spoke and sang and it was good! We went w/ S and L P. They are awesome!

So yep it was a fun week! Still loving missionary life. Australia is the best! :)

Today we woke up to rain & thunder, its definitely summer time! Thank you everyone who has sent mail or emails, I get all of them and love them! I will write back as soon as I can. ;) Love you all!

11.16.14 there is a kookaburra living outside our flat!

Hey everybody!

It was a SMASHING week in the Launceston Tamar area. The work just gets better and better every single day, and BREAKING NEWS...I will be staying in Launceston for another 6 weeks! I AM STOKED! me and Gibby (did i tell you the story about sis G's nickname?) are going to tear it up this next transfer. It'll be good. I'll be here for Christmas!! :)

I got your lovely Halloween package this week, it was awesome! Thank you heaps. I don't think you understand how happy mail makes me! and every missionary, for real.

Oh I have been wanting to tell you all this for ages I just always forget. Ok I drive on the left side of the road in the right side of the car, all backwards and that ya? Well just think about parallel parking in the USA on the normal side. Hard as. Then multiply that by 100 and thats how hard it is to parallel park on the other side all backwards and I've definitely held up traffic for about 10 minutes trying to do this. BUT I succeeded and now I'm a master at opposite parallel parking! I've learned so much on my mission.

Have you all heard of the dodgy ozone layer her in Tas? I guess there is no ozone layer over us and so the sun just burns you like fire. I didn't believe them but nek minnit (slang), I go out for 1 hour and get so burned! It's a weird sun, just burns, it doesn't hurt and will hopefully change to a tan tomorrow. My skin just literally hasn't seen sun in about a year so, its struggling.

Okay the funniest thing, we were picking up Maddi to go out finding right. We crossed a main street and got her and on the way back across Gibby's shoe made her slip and she fell right there in the middle of the street. I thought she was going to get ran over but she didn't and got up and I just, I didn't know what to do because it was the most hilarious thing I've ever seen but I didn't want to be that rude selfish person laughing at hurt people but ya, good fun.

Ah there is a kookaburra living outside our flat!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JETT! I LOVE YOU!

So in the mornings we run. Launceston is HILLS, big hills. We live on a hill called Balfour hill. It's crazy, lie a 90 degree incline I'm almost positive, ha no, but so steep and long and I have to go into 1st gear to drive the car up and I ran up it! So steep it was basically as fast as a walk on flat but man it was hard exercise though.

Tonight I ATE KANGAROO STEW. It was good. J L made it so now I've officially eaten kangaroo. You can call me an Aussie.

Monday we went to Deloraine for zone pday! So fun! We made a video for the Christmas thing and ate food at the Triffitts (1st bishop) house! Stayed at E and A G's :) Love them. Just E and S were there w/ us though. It was good.

Then Tues we had zone meetings w/ all the Tas missionaries! Zone meetings are good, they give me an extra boost for a few weeks. We learnt about missionary stuff, it was great. The spirit was strong!  ZL's Elder S and C did a training about baptism invites and it was so cool. They are such good missionaries. Elder C will be going back up to the mainland but we were lucky to have him and still S! I also got a blessing. The priesthood is the coolest thing. I definitely didn't understand the POWER of it before my mission.

Speaking of priesthood, J got the Melchezidek priesthood yesterday and spoke in our stake general priesthood meeting. He's only been baptised like 2 months! He's going to be a general authority one day, wow it was amazing seeing R and H grow so much in such a short time. They are fireballs! They love the gospel and they get it. It's all about setting and achieving goals that move us closer to becoming who God wants us to be. Constantly trying to be better...being humble enough to change! They are such good examples to me and everyone. I love them so much!

A lot of time this week was spent finding, mostly tracting. On sat we did it for 5 hours straight! And if you all forgot the weather here is opposite to America so its so hot out! Thats when I got a little burned. About half way through we were sitting there at a door and it hit me what I was actually doing. Literally knocking on random doors telling them about religion and prayer and that. I mean ya its awesome and what I love doing now but it was so weird when I actually thought about what I was doing, it happens. We'll be driving along and I'll just suddenly realise I'm on the other side of the world in AUSTRALIA w/ this girl I only met 6 weeks ago and it'll just blow my mind for a couple seconds and go away. Like I go back in to a dazed and oblivious state again. Haha so weird.

I blinked and 6 months went by. 6 months on the 21st of Nov! Almost halfway, 1/3 right now, time flies.

Hasta.
Send me mail.
Love you all.

Love,

10.26.14 i wouldn't want to be anywhere else

dear home

launceston is the best area in the whole world let's just say that we had ANOTHER amazing week. we had yoo and georgia at fhe at the wheelers on monday. that was awesome.

tuesday we got to see the zl's elder sargeant and cavanaugh... they are the best! elder sargeant lived in the this flat – it was the first place he came almost 2 years ago… crazy. p.s. we have only seen one spider here and it was small...we've been pretty lucky i'd say for being in australia w/ the deadliest animals/creatures in the world. then we slept that night. our mattresses are THE WORST but i pray to sleep good and i'm usually alright.

wednesday we went to del city! (deloraine) for district meeting. we finally got to meet the other missionaries! did I tell you we have to have district meeting on the phone now because of k's (car miles) and stuff? so actually being with the other missionaries was good. they are all pretty cool. i taught them my hand signs for how to begin teaching points from chapter 10 of pmg. hand signs make memorizing easy. :)

then of course i took sister g to the raspberry farm. we got some yummy smoothies and French toast. I love that place the most. its $$$ so now I have no money for the rest if the month so that's fun. oh I hit 5 months, is that weird or is that weird? do you miss me? if you are reading this you better miss me! and WRITE ME! and SEND ME GOODIES :) if you write a letter I will send you one back ...ready set go.

we got to go on exchanges this week w/ the stl's (sister training leaders) sister bennion and chan, the chinese speaking sisters from hobart. we met halfway and swapped. i had sister chan with me. she is from taiwan and is short. we have a korean investigator and she speaks a little korean so she taught him. it was good. we were so busy that day. we saw almost all out investigators (like 1,000). it was cool though, I love teaching them!

we taught maddi (recent convert) that night as well. it was about helaman 5:12 and the atonement and sacrament.  i just think it is so cool how every single time i teach those things i learn something new through christ through the extra strength and knowledge beyond my own. my advice to you all, learn more about the atonement of jesus christ. study it, apply it, experiment with it. as you do these things you will experience it, and then you will understand it. then your testimony will be unshakable. the atonement is everything! it's redeeming but also strengthening and enabling. USE it. also, just love our savior. love him with all you are. a wise old man (grandpa jack) once told me that the most important thing we can do to live the gospel is to love our savior. so love him! pray to love him and feel of his love. It will change your life.

                                  the gospel is amazing. ok.

we asked hayley and rome if they would teach us the plan of salvation and they said yes! so they had a few days to prepare and they taught it sunday. they are so cool. so we went and rachael and dale came as well. then they taught it! and didn't hardly look at the pamphlet or anything. they bore the most beautiful testimonies at the end. it strengthened mine so much knowing how much hope this plan has given them and the happiness and peace it has brought to them. the gospel is real. that was the best experience ever! they are just ... amazing.

we also have been teaching georgia our miracle golden investigator preparing her for her baptism on SATURDAY WHAT?! she was so beyond prepared. it's been awesome teaching her. she understands everything so well and lives what we teach her. she has all these things on pinterest helping her study the b of m. it's just, i mean like total miracle. GOD IS GREAT!

so just if any of yous were wondering, we wake up @6:15 then snooze the alarm then wake up for real @6:30. then pray then go outside and RUN. yes i run. then do some exercise and then shower. then eat and then at 8:00 am studies. then 9:00 am comp studies, role plays etc. then 10:00 am golden study. then 8:00 @ night active member lesson (as requested by elder ballard) then 9:00 pm home/plan. 10:30pm pray and then  sleep.
i'm always tired. and stressed but it's good, it's like adrenaline stress so it's fine. #missionarylife

i wouldn't want to be anywhere else but here. especially australia. my mission is the best!
also i love sis gilbert, we get along like a house on fire. :)

love you all
